“Be.Fit Together” is our twice-weekly drop-in session at Laura Trott Leisure Centre especially for people with a permanent or long term physical disability.

Introducing Louise Bonfield, Fitness Instructor

Louise Bonfield suffered a stroke at the age of 19 which left her paralysed on one side of her body. After joining a gym and realising there was nobody to help her with her needs, Louise trained and qualified as a fitness instructor specialising in training with a physical disability.

Louise understands the importance of feeling part of the gym community and works hard to make sure everybody feels confident and included. If you would prefer not to enter the gym for the first time on your own, please ask for Louise at Reception and she will be happy to meet you and show you around. You are also very welcome to stay for a social get together afterwards.

The Be.FitTogether sessions take place between 11am and 2pm every Tuesday and Thursday and cost £4.80 for up to three hours. There is no need to book – just turn up. You can drop in or leave at any point during the session, or even take a break whilst you are here. Users are free to train independently in the gyms or take part in the group instruction timetabled below. As these timetabled sessions are instructor lead, if you have higher assisted needs we advise you to bring a carer or additional support. There is no commitment – you can do as much or as little as you feel able.

The Be.Fit Together sessions are loosely structured as below and may vary.

11-11:30am – Meet and greet and gym based warm up.

‘Accessing the community and keeping healthy is vital for all but we haven’t always found these opportunities to be available and affordable for the families of those we care for.’
